I think search marketing is a great way for companies to break through the clutter that is the internet. You could spend an entire day searching for information about a topic of interest just due to the amount of content that exists.
I think it's great that search engines are offering this service to companies at reasonable rates, giving them the oppurtunity to reach their audience simply by being the first link to show up during a Google search.
Despite the fact that I think it's a great tool, I'm still unsure of how effective it actually is. I can honestly say I have never clicked on a sponsored link, not because they haven't caught my attention, but because I know it's a paid advertisement.
There are however a lot of benefits of search marketing. It's a great way to make your site easier to locate, improves your ranking and can significantly increase your traffic. Only time will tell if search marketing really is beneficial to companies.

Product Placement & Sponsorship
Product placement seems to be inevitable. You can find it in almost every show you watch, and it seems to be in all the movies. A lot of people seem to have a real issue with this. I on the other hand don't really care. Good for Advertisers for finding a way to incorporate advertising into movies and TV shows.
When searching the internet, there seemed to be tons of complaints regarding this topic. In my opinion product placement complaints are becoming about as old as the product placement shots themselves. Why not take advantage of an oppurtunity to advertise where ever you can.
When you think about it, if you were take a video camera and film you and your friends out and about in the real world, there would probably actually be even more product placement displayed. Just think about it. People every where are walking around with brand names displayed on their clothing, shoes and accessories. You see a guy walking down the street with a bottle of Pepsi in his hand, or one of the millions of people who are walking around listening to tunes on their iPods.
The reality is brands exist, and people are generally comfortable in announcing to the world what their brand preferences are, so why not just let advertisers use product placement to their advantage and if someone really has a problem with it, they're just going to have to learn to turn off their televisions, or walk around with their eyes closed for that matter.
